Instructional Excellence
RAISING THE BAR ON LEARNING
It’s hard to overstate the impact that effective instruction has on students—for providing rigorous learning opportunities, fostering real-world readiness, and increasing achievement.
Teachers are on the front lines of instruction; we must equip them with the resources, guidance, and innovative practices for creating the learning environments that drive student growth.
How Do We Get There?
OUR BLENDED APPROACH

To maximize the experience for instructional teams, ICLE delivers a professional learning experience using a blended approach. Our in-person foundational and deepening courses for teachers are augmented with high-quality classroom videos, lesson ideas, and associated resources to support online, face-to- face, and job-embedded instructional coaching.
Coaching support is an essential component of our partnership, and ensures the long-term success of our work together. Since no two classrooms are the same, we tailor our coaching based on specific needs, but some common goals of our instructional coaching are to equip teachers to:
- Reflect on existing levels of rigor, relevance and learner engagement
- Establish a common definition of the indicator and related concepts
- Distinguish among levels of student work for each indicator
- Increase the level of effectiveness for each indicator in lesson design and instruction
- Plan for and apply strategies to shift instruction to increase student learning
RESULTS-DRIVEN PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
The timeline below is designed to provide a roadmap to help accomplish your urgent goal of significantly improving student achievement. This plan is a recommended model for the optimal sequence and pacing of our collaborative work:

Making Academic Gains by Engaging Families and Community at Cabell County School District
- Increasing the rigor and relevance of instruction, incorporating differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and stretch learning into every classroom
- Improving communication with families and community by encouraging home visits and parent-teacher conferences and inviting community groups and business leaders to be members of district planning committees
"We have seen an increase in our reading, our science, and our math. Our graduation rate has gone up; the dropout rate has gone down. Over the years, we have seen a lot of great things happen in our system that go back to this relationship with ICLE."
